During my ISTC 789, Practicum, I ordered books from Title Wave. I picked this vendor based from my experience, because I have ordered from them twice in the past and I never had any problem with them. Before I ordered the books, I asked the staff if they would recommend books that they want to see in our library and they were very nice to send me emails in September. Then I picked the books from Title Wave by referring to the teachers’ recommendations. I picked the most borrowed books like the Diary of the Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, picture books about counting, Black-Eyed Susan books that I do not have yet in my library, and solar power books because I only have a few of these in my collection. There were a total of 95 books that cost $1,369.56. The budget came from the county through student allocation ($2 per student). We have 709 students and I multiplied it by 2, which gave me $1,418 total. I really wish next year we will have a new budget to buy books because now I am more familiar with my collections.

During my ISTC 651, Information Literacy and Access, I learned how to make an instructional matrix. My partner and I created a table that has topic on trees and integrated to Science, Geography, Art, Math and Music. We used books to read to the students, and technology like websites, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, gadgets like cameras and computers for the students to use during the activities. It was very informative and interesting especially my role is to collaborate my lessons in different areas. After thanksgiving break, I am planning to teach my students how to create a book review video using the iPad and iMovie applications. I am planning to collaborate this with any subject’s theme, so I have to talk to the teachers and ask their lessons in class. I am planning to combine art by making them draw a story of the book and adding music as well. This project might take 2-3 weeks to finish. My students love using technology and I want them to explore it more and learn something they can use in the future. I might just teach them the basic, but other than visual skills, they will use their creativity, writing, speaking and listening skills.

I always promote purchasing materials, resources and exhibit a positive role model to my diverse population. Majority of our population is Hispanic, it is necessary to help the diverse learners learn how to speak and read the English language. I keep a small collection of Spanish books and also have an interpreter when necessary. I put an effort to combat stereotyping and discrimination against anyone on the basis of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion, native birth, language spoken or disability.
